Gerald (“Jerry”) Dorn is the managing shareholder at Anderson, Dorn & Rader, Ltd. Mr. Dorn has extensive experience serving families and business owners in the design and implementation of estate, tax, business and asset protection planning strategies. He made the decision to focus his practice in estate planning after witnessing the personal grief and financial loss suffered by several of his clients and their families as a result of poor planning. These experiences motivated him to dedicate his professional life to assisting his clients to preserve their life’s work for their heirs and to create a lasting legacy for those they love.
Just out of law school, Mr. Dorn helped to found Harris & Dorn, LLP., a private firm in San Diego that concentrated on family law, estate planning and probate cases. Mr. Dorn relocated the Reno area when he was offered a position as general counsel to a national estate planning company, drafting documents and teaching continuing education classes to attorneys, financial planners and accountants. Mr. Dorn is a frequent author and lecturer on such topics as Revocable Living Trusts, Family Limited Partnerships and Family Limited Liability Companies, Irrevocable Trusts, Tax Planning with Life Insurance, Charitable Remainder Trusts, Charitable Lead Trusts, Private Foundations, Qualified Personal Residence Trusts, Dynasty Trusts, Sales to Defective Grantor Trusts, Estate and Tax Planning for IRAs and Qualified Plans, Trust and Estate Administration, and Asset Protection. He is a member of American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys, WealthCounsel, LLC, the State Bar of Nevada’s Probate and Trust Law Section where he serves on the Legislative Committee, the State Bar of California’s Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Section, the American Bar Association’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and the Washoe County Bar Association.
Education
Mr. Dorn pursued his education in San Diego as an undergraduate at the University of San Diego, earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration. While there, he was awarded Departmental Honors from the School of Business Administration. He remained in San Diego to attend the California Western School of Law, where he was honored with the American Jurisprudence Award in Legal Research and Writing, with recognition in Who’s Who Among American Law Students. Mr. Dorn is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning Law and an Accredited Estate Planner by the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils. In addition, Mr. Dorn is a Fellow with the American Academy of Estate Planning Attorneys.
Personal
Mr. Dorn has two biological children, Jason and Alyssa, and a step-daughter, Rylee. Mr. Dorn and his wife, Kristen, maintain a very active lifestyle outside of their professional careers and enjoy weight training, group fitness, running, skiing, camping and mountain biking. Mr. Dorn is also involved in the community as an active member of his church and a board member of a local nonprofit organization.
